nouveau

:  new and different, often fashionably so.

When day dreaming about NU VEAU market, before it even had a name, the dream was always about an elevated shopping experience, where time could be happily spent, in good company, around beautiful things for beautiful living, at boutique style booths by the most sought after makers.  It would be "new" and "modern" with the energy of "the big city" but still all the "small town" feels that we love here on The Island.  Nouveau described this perfectly and so NU VEAU market was created.  We are excited to be curating a very intentional, fresh line up of talented makers who value handmade, sustainably, ethically and quality made in their brands. Friday evening is gala style sip and shop with bubbly beverage NU VEAU tote bag filled with beautiful gifts from our makers and dj mixing their own beats, where shoppers will get the first chance to purchase the most loved and exclusive products.  Saturday | Sunday has a live acoustic music lounge that the booths flow around and a Telephone booth photo booth which is also an audio guest book and how entries for the gift boxes will be taken.  Tote bags filled with goodies will be gifted to the first 50 shoppers each morning and throughout the day.

It is our wish to bring you a fresh, new, modern, shopping experience - and day out - that will make your heart happy so we invite you to shop, socialize and curate your own beautiful life at NU VEAU market!

the owner and maker behind NIYIEM studio and now, the curator of NU VEAU market.  I have been a jewelry designer in the Comox Valley and selling at markets for over 12 years and was a wedding planner before that.  It feels very natural to be combining my experience of the two, to host an event with the same modern style that my jewelry brand has become known for.  Besides jewelry making (but also in my jewelry making) I am very passionate about non toxic, clean living and am a total health nut, in the best possible way.  I attribute that to my "hippie" Cortes roots.  Raised by West Coast artisans, the craft scene is second nature to me so I'm not at all surprised I ended up making a career out of handmade.  I didn't expect, however, for it to become such a big thing.  I am a very "small town" girl so when my jewelry was chosen to be featured in New York, it was surreal and beyond exciting. Seeing my first magazine publication was even more surreal!  Then to see my jewelry in magazines like InStyle, Harper's Bazaar, Moevir and others, and in news stands in distant places like Paris, Spain and Brazil - it made my heart so happy.  Vancouver Island and New York City are worlds apart and both of them appeal to me for very different reasons.  The thought of mixing "big city" style with our "small town" feels and adding in everything I would want as a professional maker to create a fresh, new shopping and vending experience, makes me really excited and is what lead to the start of NU VEAU market.  I hope the anticipation is as exciting for you!

NIYIEM STUDIO

Starting a business can be intimidating, especially at a young age when there is still so
Something very close to my heart is giving up and coming young artists a chance to experience life as an artisan and help them start their own creative businesses so I will be gifting one booth space and a full coaching package to an emerging artist under the age of 25 to help a young entrepreneur reach their creative dreams and have their beautiful creations seen and out in the world.

I was extremely blessed to have incredible support emotionally, financially and as sounding boards when I launched my jewelry line.  I'd like to pay that forward with the up and coming generation and I can't think of a better way, as a maker and market host, to do that.

I love my family the most out of all the earthly things and it's the reason why I put my heart and soul into what I do.
